Faded Dyes Tie Dye Kit
Branding & Experience Identity
My goal with this experience packaging was to create a one-stop-shop product that included reusable parts. I had to also keep in mind that the assignment was to alleviate problems from a current experience using graphic design. Hmmmm..
Well here are some things I know; a global pandemic just started, and I'm hanging out at home in my old sweats. Nothing wrong with that—why would I dress up if I'm sitting on the couch all day? My friend and I have been binging shows and scrolling on Instagram for wayy too long, and I'm feeling the urge to create something. I imagine tie-dyeing shirts to hang around at home in, but there isn’t a store I can get all the supplies at. I'm overwhelmed by the options for patterns and might just throw the whole idea out and scroll through Instagram again.
Would it be easier to decide if it was all given to me in one kit, for me AND my friend? This is how I connected “Faded Dyes”. An all-inclusive group tie-dye kit with instructional posters to hang for everyone to see, pattern instruction cards for individual use, a blank *thrifted* t-shirt, colored dyes, rubber bands, and other necessary dying tools.

The logo is framed as an old motel sign, featuring all colors available in the dye kit. Large posters were created to answer all questions and instructions; while the pattern cards hold the same information, they are for individual use and are more photographic to show the tie-dye pattern they represent. I created personalized brushes to symbolize tie-dye and illustrated patterns for the cards using photoshop. All type layouts and graphics were done in InDesign and Illustrator.

The “Faded Dyes” name is inspired by the connection of using old and new resources together. The shirt within the box has been thrifted and refurbished to be like new, and they certainly will have a new life once they’re dyed! The colorful design aesthetic branches from bright vintage signage of motels and diners in the western part of the United States. These places are old yet booming with tourism, life, and excitement.
